Oscar Espinosa Chepe

Después de enfermar de ébola en África durante una misión médica y, luego de recuperarse por completo en un hospital de Ginebra, Suiza, el Dr. Félix Báez Sarría ha podido volver a ver a su familia en Cuba. El economista Oscar Espinosa Chepe, cuya enfermedad hepática se agravó durante el presidio político, no pudo retornar a su casa cuando falleció, hacen 15 meses, en el hospital madrileño en donde trataron de salvarlo, tesoneramente pero sin éxito.

El funeral Oscar Espinosa Chepe se celebró este martes en el Cementerio de La Almudena, de Madrid, donde posteriormente fue incinerado su cuerpo.

El economista independiente, fallecido a primera hora del lunes, recibió oraciones católicas en la capilla del cementerio, informó su viuda, Miriam Leiva.

A la ceremonia acudieron amigos y activistas, entre ellos algunas autoridades de la región de Madrid y del Gobierno de España.

El disidente Oscar Espinosa Chepe, fallecido este lunes en Madrid a los 72 años de edad, "fue uno de los economistas más informados y valientes de Cuba", opinó su compañero de profesión Carmelo Mesa-Lago, profesor emérito de la Universidad de Pittsburg.

"Su obra fue objetiva, profunda y analítica", añadió Mesa-Lago, informó Reuters.

Disidentes y exiliados cubanos expresaron pesar por la muerte de Espinosa Chepe, uno de los 75 opositores que el régimen envió a prisión durante la oleada represiva de 2003.

El estado de salud del opositor cubano Óscar Espinosa Chepe es "muy grave", debido a una dolencia crónica de hígado, informó su esposa, Mirian Leiva, reporta EFE.

Chepe, de 72 años, economista y miembro del grupo de 75 disidentes encarcelados en Cuba en la primavera de 2003, está en Madrid desde el pasado 12 de marzo recibiendo tratamiento para su enfermedad, gracias a gestiones de embajada de España en La Habana.
